How long has the airline industry existed?

Haven't they had time enough to figure things out? Is there a particular reason that I need to spend an hour sitting on the tarmac waiting for you to route flights into Chicago? Did this airport just open? I'm confused as to why you have a schedule for flights but then change them after we're already shoe-horned onto the plane. I understand delays for weather but routing issues? Ok ok, lets assume for a second that this is a valid concern (and I'm sure it is...) then why do we have to wait on the tarmac? Can't we wait in the airport, where we might stretch our legs and/or get something to eat?

Baggage... This shouldn't be that hard. I never got on a different flight nor did I suddenly change destinations. YOU pushed the departure time back...TWICE! There is no reason that you shouldn't be able to get my bags from one plane to the next when you, by virtue of pushing back the departure time, (at least I didn't sit on the tarmac) gave yourself almost two FULL hours.

Venting? Sure, at least I wasn't these guys...

Dad, these are my power tools...

Dad, these are my power tools...

Cooking thermometer, icing knife and a stand up mixer. A bit different than the impact drill and sawzall that my father uses on a daily basis. Despite this I”m lucky to have him and my mother be completely supportive of my new found passion. I cook. More specifically, I bake. I have been making cheesecakes for a while now, but its gotten worse what with Julie and I swapping recipes and me finding www.tastespotting.com. I'm now infected with a disease that can only be cured with sugar and a touch of vanilla. As of right now I have a New York Style Cheesecake waiting to be frosted and covered with marshmallow fondant (http://whatscookingamerica.net/PegW/Fondant.htm) some Chocolate Ganache waiting to be stuffed into truffles and the desire to make Pavlova right now because it just looks so damn good (http://bronmarshall.com/?p=434). So this has become my hobby, which I don't mind despite being a little counter productive compared to Rugby. It's starting to get expensive though. Not only have I been to Target twice last week I have gone through more powdered sugar than anyone I know. Its gotten so ridiculous that I got all giddy yesterday when I found an icing knife when looking for some cling wrap (Dad, these are my power tools!). With everything I've recently bought I still need a thermometer to temper chocolate with (http://www.ghirardelli.com/bake/chocolate_tempering.aspx). If I'm not mistaken I even had a confectionery dream last night of whipped cream and egg whites.

We both create things my dad and I. He builds houses, garages and literally anything else you can imagine, me? I make your taste buds water. Luckily I have a perpetual need for things fixed or created and my whole family, dad included, has a serious sweet tooth. I'd like to think it all evens out in the end.

What not to wear...
Sunday, June 18, 2006, 04:07 AM - Random act of venting
I work at a bar on the weekends. I see people who have taken three hours to find the perfect thing to wear, made sure their hair is perfect and that their shoes match their belt. I see people who have thrown their outfit together in 10 minutes but still look elegant and well-put together. I also see people who have never even thought about what they must look like to other people.

No, the rhinestones on your back pockets aren't attractive; they make it look like Siegfried and Roy have put handprints on your ass.

Lady with the pink tube top on. You look naked except you hve no nipples.

Guy with the oversized, off-the-rack suit, take the extra 10 minutes and 30 bucks to get it tailored.

Everyone, at least look at your self objectivley and see if any thoughts come to mind.

O, and guy with 200 dollar jeans, long hair and a trendy shirt? You're still 40+, nothing changes that.

An open letter to rap stars everywhere...

To whom it may concern,
Please take your art, your music to a new level. Talking about your ice, bling or how heavy your pockets are has reached its limit. It is no longer entertaining for you to flaunt the lifestyle that you are portraying. It is blatantly obvious that you not actually living it, save a few massively successful artists. These artists have taken the art form further, opening up new avenues of entertainment that you have blatantly disregarded by talking about your watches, cars and faux lives. We know the cars are rented and the stones zirconium. I implore you to stop, take a step back and look at things that will leave a lasting impression on your audience. Social responsibility and awareness are things that will surprise and delight us. Assume some intelligence in your listeners and we may surprise you.
Thank you for your time
A concerned listener.

Never undestimate the power of small gestures..
Wednesday, May 24, 2006, 10:04 AM - Pointless Rambling
A smile, a thank you, even just patience can go miles more than any expensive gift or grand display. Last weekend I decided to splurge and went to Wendy's for dinner. Ok, well I went through the drive through, but you can imagine me with candles and silverware out for this "special occasion." You often meet an array of individuals when going through the drive through… Providing you don’t always go at 3:30 am.

Regardless you don't often meet people who have accomplished their career goal by making sure that your order of fries is fresh and contains "at least 10 ketchups." When going through the line last weekend I was polite (I don't want to do her job, I will respect her for doing it) and with a smile I got her to smile back. Now I can't comment on exactly how it made her feel, but it can't hurt.

What prompted this rambling thought train was work today. I'm not a mac person, nor do I claim to be. Doing my job here I have to support a handful of Apple machines. Two girls here have just gotten new iBooks and have been needy as a result. Finally they have their ergonomic keyboards, laptop stands and all the software they need. They gave me a gift certificate for Caribou as a thank you. Completely unnecessary and unexpected. Made my day.
